We prefer to read our seafood menu off of a chalkboard ensuring that what we're ordering was dreaming little fishy dreams below sea level only a day ago. With a nice glass of wine you'll get exactly that at this bistro. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10pm; Fri 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm; Sat 12pm-10:30pm; Sun 5pm-9:30pm

This place has it all, since it's the flagship restaurant of Jeff Tunk who has three other unique restaurants in the city. But the seafood here is worth remembering. The menu items are simple yet refined-that's right we said it. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm; Fri 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-11pm; Sat 5:30pm-11pm

A local favorite that takes its oysters seriously. It is located in a ‘alternative’ section of DC, but that shouldn’t affect your decision to go or not go because Hank’s stands on its own as a great respite from the normal DC going ons. If you need an education in oysters, head to Hanks. Find what you like on the chalkboard as you wait for a table in the small confines of this kitchen where no reservations are accepted. Open Mon-Tue 5:30pm-10pm; Wed-Thu 5:30pm-11pm; Fri 5:30pm-11:30pm; Sat 11am-11:30pm; Sun 11am-10pm

Every tourist walking by J Paul's in Georgetown knows they have oysters, because they're on ice in the window. So be prepared to overhear stories of how cool the top of the Washington Monument is. Despite the crowd, which can get overwhelming in the bar area, J Paul's delivers good eats. Open Mon 12am-2am, 11:30am-2am; Tue-Thu 11:30am-2am; Fri-Sat 11:30am-3am; Sun 10:30am-12am

You may have seen an Oceanaire in Houston or Atlanta, and guess what? Same deal. Great seafood in a great setting. However, if you or a guest wants anything not so fishy, you're out of luck. Seafood is their thing, so stick to that. Open Mon-Thu 11am-10pm; Fri 11am-11pm; Sat 5pm-11pm; Sun 5pm-9pm

Hook is the trendy place to get fish these days in your nation's capital. We tried it and agree, the food is worth the buzz. But we are keeping it on probation at #6 until we get more comfortable with a menu that has very little reprieve for the non-seafood loving friend at your table. We also respect their local, organic, responsible attitude on the their catches of the day, but don't really love having that attitude crammed down our throat. We get it - you're better than us. Now get me some Yellowfin Tuna!!!

Another chain operating with tremendous zeal in DC. McCormick & Schmick's has stamped out a nice footprint here and well-regarded for anything that once had a hook in it. Open Mon-Thu 11am-11pm; Fri 11am-12am; Sat 2pm-12am; Sun 4pm-10pm
