A local favorite that takes its oysters seriously. It is located in a ‘alternative’ section of DC, but that shouldn’t affect your decision to go or not go because Hank’s stands on its own as a great respite from the normal DC going ons. If you need an education in oysters, head to Hanks. Find what you like on the chalkboard as you wait for a table in the small confines of this kitchen where no reservations are accepted. Open Mon-Thu 5pm-10pm; Sat 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-11pm; Sun 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10pm

By bringing the cajun elegance of New Orleans and Lafayette to Washington, Acadiana has given all of us a nice break from steak and potatoes. All of the entrees are delicious, but the real winner is the biscuits and jelly served to you immediately after you sit down. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm; Fri 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-11pm; Sat 5:30pm-11pm

A 1/2 block from the White House, this stately, wood covered restaurant has three bar choices. The long bar in the center is for tourists, so stay away. The duck bar to the left is for young lobbyist types to mingle and fraternize. The back bar is where White House staffers and DC regulars hang out without you bothering them. Mike takes care of them, and maybe you if you're nice.

Looking through the window at J Paul’s, it’s hard to miss that they love Oysters here, since they’re sitting on ice right there. On bustling M Street in Georgetown, this is a favorite place for students to bring their parents, and there is good reason. A good all around menu, hopping bar and strong vibe make J Paul’s our Georgetown Oyster destination. Open Mon 12am-2am, 11:30am-2:30am; Tue-Thu 11:30am-2:30am; Fri-Sat 11:30am-3am; Sun 10:30am-12am

Located in a practical revolving door of a restaurant location, Johnny’s is a favorite Capitol Hill oyster spot. With some national broadcast studios located upstairs, this is also a good place to see ‘famous for DC’ faces. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-10:30pm; Sat 11:30am-11pm

You may have seen an Oceanaire in Houston or Atlanta, and guess what? Same deal. Great seafood in a great setting. However, if you or a guest wants anything not so fishy, you're out of luck. Seafood is their thing, so stick to that. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-10pm; Fri 11:30am-11pm; Sat 5pm-11pm; Sun 5pm-9pm
