All of the entrees are delicious, but the real winner is the biscuits and jelly served to you immediately after you sit down.

Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-10:30pm; Sat 5:30pm-11:30pm

The lure of Tuesdays is 10-cent wings, but it has grown to be more of a meat market, with wings being a handy excuse. However, Thursday is strong and Wednesday is overlooked, for more manageable, chatty crowds. Also, hunting at closing time on any night usually renders results. Cap Lounge has burnt down twice but recovered nicely, so head on over and talk politics, even though the sign says 'no politics'. Go hit on a Hill staffer and learn all about how they wrote a press release or an amendment or something. That masters degree was worth it!
Open Mon 2:30pm-2am; Tue-Thu 3pm-2am; Fri-Sat 10am-3am; Sun 10am-midnight

Town Hall

If you're going to pre-drink at a bar and not at a house, pre-drink here....particularly on Fridays (and Saturdays too). Sunday afternoons are comfortable and pleasant at Town Hall as well--I mean, it's not rocking like its peak nights, but there is a good crowd and are plenty of plasmas with your game on...and great bar food. However, you are probably going to run into a Colts fan who loves them because they won with his girlfriend wearing a pink Manning shirt. Ignore them. By the way, remember when we lived on the Hill and went to Bully's, the Coast and the Lounge? Ha! Those were the days. Pass the guacamole.

Open Weekdays 5pm-10:30pm; Sat 11:30am-11pm

Madam's Organ

An amazing place to see a band, enjoy some soul food, and pick one of four floors or a roof deck to take it all in. It has all the trappings of a dive bar, with the elegance of your favorite New Orleans music haunt. The bands are usually jam happy, and the folks get up and dance. While many places claim institution status in DC, this is one place that backs it up.

Open Mon 12am-2am, 5pm-2am; Tue-Thu 5pm-2am; Fri-Sat 5pm-3am; Sun 5pm-12am

ROCK & ROLL HOTEL

New to the DC scene, this is becoming the place to be when amps are plugged in. Attracting a variety of up and comers, expect to see the Socs push aside the Greasers for dance floor space.

Well it isn't. In fact, it's only at Rocklands. This is true paper plate, paper towel, 8 stools in the window barbecue that will satisfy your hunger. Try the brisket and pick whichever sauce you want for kick. Oh, and there is lemonade.

Open Weekdays 11:30am-10pm; Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 11am-9pm

Town Hall

Despite all of the good things surrounding this bar as a watering hole, the food is actually very good for a bar. Seriously. The menu will impress you.

Open Daily 11:30am-10:30pm

Cashion's Eat Place

Cashion's is the best restaurant in the city. There, we said it. The menu changes daily and it reflects seasonal attitude with the personal memories of its namesake and propietors. It's not the fanciest restaurant (try the Willard Room for that) and its not the most expensive....it's just the best.

Open Tue 5:30pm-10pm; Wed-Sat 5:30pm-11pm; Sun 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10pm

This was the first certified organic restaurant in America, so it probably is healthy, right? Fresh bread, fresh produce, fresh menus daily. This is a health conscience food critic's dream. And the atmosphere is perfect and homey for that first date where you pretend you actually do care about your health.

CHARLIE PALMER STEAK

As Denny Green would say: It is what we thought it would be damnit! Normally, we stray against sending you to places that have multiple locations, but Charlie Palmer does it right in DC. Charlie Palmer knows how to present a great meal, and with a location in crawling (and viewing) distance to the Capitol, you'll probably be sitting next to a Senator or two, so bring your bribin' money! The wine, the windows, the roof for big-time parties, and the food - heck, good luck gettin' a table. Hint: click below and start tryin'.

Open Weekdays 5:30pm-10pm; Sat 5pm-10:30pm

Dubliner

When you are the oldest Irish pub in a city known for transition and short attention spans, you are doing something right. The same family has been pouring Guinesses at this Capitol Hill institution for over 30 years and the patrons love them for it. If there was a recipe for the perfect Irish pub, this would be it. They also stay open late, so they’re the perfect ‘last stop’ if you live on Capitol Hill. Oh, and the have a larger than average patio for daylight drinking (with sunglasses of course). We had more we wanted to say, but we drank a bit too much here on the last visit, so watch the video!
Open Mon-Sat 7pm-2am; Sun 11am-12am

Guajillo

Sneaky Sunday strives to find you the best food, the best atmosphere and the best overall experience. That search took us to a little strip mall in Arlington, 5 minutes from downtown DC, where a sneaky spot called Guajillo rests its beautiful head. The food is as authentic as you’ll find in DC because the husband and wife team that built this place care about what they are serving you. The margaritas are great, even if you’re waiting on another certain restaurant next door, and the crowd feels very familiar and comfortable. Guajillo is the best Mexican food in DC, hands down.

Matchbox

Hands down, the best pizza in the city in one of the nicest atmospheres to match. There is a guaranteed wait for a table here, but the brick oven gourmets are insane and the exposed brick wall inviting. In Chinatown, there would be only one sanctuary for Sneaky Sunday patrons, especially now that they're finally open on Sundays!

Whether it is a chance encounter with a celebrity (Heellllooo Bo Derek!) or a sneaky encounter with a mature woman or gentleman, elected or not, this place delivers on scene. But guess what? They deliver on food too. Recently, the Pope visited DC and he had one dinner catered for his special friends, and guess who catered it? Yup, Café Milano. The choice of Popes! So, if everyone who is anyone loves it, and the staff treat you like a rock star, even if you are not, and if you get to hang out with rock stars, doesn’t that mean this place is the best? One food tip, if ordering a pizza, get the one with the truffles. We would not steer you wrong. We love Café Milano and we’re not afraid to tell everyone.

As happy as Jimmy, Henry and Tommy in Tommy's mama's house. Now go grab your shinebox. (trivia: Tommy's mom is played by Martin Scorcese's mom, did you know that? sneaky)

This place is as fancy as Capitol Hill gets, thankfully. But Sonoma delivers. Great Italian fare is partnered with a generous wine list that will have you deciding if your date is worth the Brunello or if Merlot will do. Probably Merlot.

The Capital Grille

Sure there are plenty of Capital Grilles across the country, but how many are a block from the US Capitol? This location serves up some serious DC power brokering at the wood and leather bar area. If you ever wanted to see lobbyists and Congressmen doing what you think they do, this is where they do it.

Have you heard of him? Located behind DC newest and best museum, the Newseum, the Source is the new go to place for power lunches, and power dates. With two floors of varying menus and reservation policies, there is something here for everyone, including a decent bar. We are usually skeptical of big names opening up satellite restaurants, but we are convinced after meeting the incredibly talented executive chef and tasting his creations. Wolfgang has taught this apprentice well. Spago who?

Nora Restaurant

We fell in love with Nora when we first walked in, and we mean both the restaurant and the namesake. By practice, they are correct, but legally, they are not. Also, bring brass knuckles as the mingling crowd can be a bit threatening.

Daily Grill (Georgetown)

-"You didn't get into the Point?"

Saturday night, this is the first 10 miles of the marathon between 9 and 11:30 pm. Thursdays....well....do you have a Lacoste shirt? A brooks brothers credit card?? Do your parents fund your apartment so you live near the jetsetters despite a $30k income??? Well then this may be the place for you on Thursday night. It's good looking people making the connections necessary to move ahead in life. Where this crowd runs off to at 11pm is probably the place to be late night. Check out our other categories to find out!
