In the bar made famous by St. Elmo's Fire, this is the place for a cold beer after walking around Georgetown endlessly on a Sunday. Even if you've been out of college for years, it will take you right back there. Get your hands off of my wife!

Open Mon 12am-2am, 11:30am-2am; Tue-Thu 11:30am-2am; Sat 11pm-3am; Sun 9:30pm-12am

Chadwick's (Georgetown)

Russian spies once traded secrets in the front booth of this Georgetown waterfront watering hole. Commies. Nevertheless, this bar holds up as a good Sunday drink and eat door front.

Open Monday-Thursday 11:30AM-2:00AM

Rhino Bar

Despite the name, this is actually a great place to watch the games in the afternoon. There are the obvious drink specials, but be warned that they cater to Red Sox nation. So if you're a Yankees fan, you may want to steer clear, unless you want to re-enact A-Rod slapping the ball away or crying in the dugout. Definitely an easy place to have a sneaky Sunday.

Open Tue-Thu 9pm-2am; Fri 5pm-3am; Sat 9pm-3am

Town Hall

If you're going to pre-drink at a bar and not at a house, pre-drink here....particularly on Fridays (and Saturdays too). Sunday afternoons are comfortable and pleasant at Town Hall as well--I mean, it's not rocking like its peak nights, but there is a good crowd and are plenty of plasmas with your game on...and great bar food. However, you are probably going to run into a Colts fan who loves them because they won with his girlfriend wearing a pink Manning shirt. Ignore them. By the way, remember when we lived on the Hill and went to Bully's, the Coast and the Lounge? Ha! Those were the days. Pass the guacamole.

Open Weekdays 5pm-10:30pm; Sat 11:30am-11pm

Whitlow's on Wilson

You can start, middle and end at Whitlow's. The great thing about this chameleon is that it usually matches the tempo you're looking for. Good music on weekend nights, good brunch in the mornings. What do they have to offer you on weekend afternoons? The answer is a decent place to relax with a beer, a small tv and a pool table.

Open Mon 12am-2am, 11am-2am; Tue-Fri 11am-2am; Sat 9am-2am; Sun 9am-12am

701

This is your typical DC work crowd, all loosening their ties and purses to enjoy bitching about their jobs. Their bosses suck. After a long day of watching you tube and im'ing your friends, you might as well have a classy happy hour before showing the world your degenerate true self. Remember the name by recalling your combined SAT score.

Open Mon-Thu 5:30pm-10:30pm; Sat 5pm-11:30pm; Sun 5:30pm-9:30pm

Capital Grille

Instead of worrying about how bad your job is, come to Cap Grille and try and find a new one. It's all networking and creepy old men on Mondays...

Capitol Lounge

Tuesday night is its finest - a universal truth. The lure of Tuesdays is 10-cent wings, but it has grown to be more of a meat market, with wings being a handy excuse. However, Thursday is strong and Wednesday is overlooked, for more manageable, chatty crowds. Also, hunting at closing time on any night usually renders results. Cap Lounge has burnt down twice but recovered nicely, so head on over and talk politics, even though the sign says 'no politics'. Go hit on a Hill staffer and learn all about how they wrote a press release or an amendment or something. That masters degree was worth it!
Open Mon 2:30pm-2am; Tue-Thu 3pm-2am; Fri-Sat 10am-3am; Sun 10am-midnight

Bistro Bis

This is where 30-somethings gather to tell stories of years past at Cap Lounge. Now they have enough money for $10 chicken wings and don't want to dirty their tailored suits at the Lounge. And you know what? God bless 'em.

Open Weekdays 7am-11am, 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm; Sat 7am-10:30am, 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm

Tortilla Coast

Another Hill location famous for its crowd more than its food or drinks. But they have good nightly drink specials throughout the week and plenty of young hill staffers. See you at the Coast.

Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-10pm; Fri-Sat 11:30am-11pm

McFadden's

Six days a week, we might not send you here, but for some reason, on Thursday nights, the girls of George Washington University and other assorted interns and staffers make this a place to meat people. Decent on Monday as well. Jagerbombs all around.

Open Mon 12am-2am, 10:30am-2am; Tue-Fri 11am-2am; Sat 10:30am-2am; Sun 11am-12am

Mr. Smith's

It's Monday night...a good night to try something different. Mr. Smith's is an old piano bar in Georgetown that is hopping on the weekends and comfortable otherwise. Sure you can go to the piano and play Heart and Soul....they LOVE that...

Open Mon 12am-2am, 11am-2am; Tue-Sat 11am-2am; Sun 11am-12am

The Front Page

More for the Monday Night Football aspect than anything else, this is a good place to catch up on the game and avoid going home for two more hours.

Bullfeathers of Capitol Hill

Between the ages of 23 and 24, some folks grow too old for the Coast or the Lounge and prefer to spend their 25, 26 and 27 years sitting at Bully's drinking enough to where they can later head to the Lounge and act as if it was a drunken excursion for memories sake......kids.

Open Weekdays 10am-10:30pm; Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 10:30am-10pm

Rosa Mexicano

Downtown drinking should start at Rosa's. After a few swirls, you'll have all the liquid courage you need.

Open Daily 11:30am-3pm, 5pm-11pm

Lucky Bar

In a town full of Hill staffers, lawyers and lobbyists, who knows where the folks in this bar have jobs as they are none of the above. But they party hard and the girl/guy ratio is relatively high, so pull up a dirty stool and hit on the girls who weren't good enough for the clubs next door.

Thursdays....well....do you have a Lacoste shirt? A brooks brothers credit card?? Do your parents fund your apartment so you live near the jetsetters despite a $30k income??? Well then this may be the place for you on Thursday night. It's good looking people making the connections necessary to move ahead in life. Where this crowd runs off to at 11pm is probably the place to be late night. Check out our other categories to find out!

Just 100 yards from the White House, you know stuff is going down here, so stop by after work.

Whether it is a chance encounter with a celebrity (Heellllooo Bo Derek!) or a sneaky encounter with a mature woman or gentleman, elected or not, this place delivers on scene. Smoke that 'non-Cuban' cigar on the patio with friends, sip wine with celebs or pound martinis with your friends - this is a great happy hour (if happy hour lasted until close). So, if everyone who is anyone loves it, and the staff treat you like a rock star, even if you are not, doesn’t that mean this place is the best? We love Café Milano and we’re not afraid to tell everyone.
