It wasn't until 44 years after their discovery that photographs of Dead Sea Scrolls were available to the public. Tickets to see the them include a 45-minute audio tour.

The show will position the works of two of the world's greatest painters - El Greco and Velázquez - within the context of the art of their time, the dawn of the Golden Age in Spain. The American public will encounter for the first time exceptional works by lesser known but accomplished artists who knew them and worked alongside them, including Juan Bautista Maino, Juan Sánchez Cotán, Luis Tristán and Gregorio Fernández. More than 100 paintings, sculptures and decorative arts will be on view, including seven works by El Greco, three by Velázquez, two by Jusepe de Ribera and one large work by Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens, painted during his 1603 diplomatic mission to Spain. Important loans will come from museums in Spain and five other countries; some works are traveling for the first time.

Curated by Martin Tucker, a photojournalist and teacher, each of the 60 compelling images selected for this exhibit has a description from the veteran who took the photograph. Topics include camaraderie, jungle combat, the Vietnamese people, and a soldier's private moments.

This is an exhibition of portraits of the Haitian people, by Thomas Plaut, a photographer and sociologist. Instead of the violence and political instability, which appears to be the mainstay of press reports about Haiti, Plaut said he found "strength and dignity in hard-working people living in an impoverished and environmentally devastated region."

This exhibit features new acrylic paintings of pottery and more by Chapel Hill artist David Taylor.

'The Art of Love' explores notions of romantic love with twenty-one woodcuts, engravings, and etchings from the Ackland's collection. The works of art are by Dutch, Flemish, French, German, and Italian artists from the fifteenth through the nineteenth centuries. The prints depict subjects including courtship, marriage, illicit relationships, allegorical ideals of love, and narratives about famous pairs like Adam and Eve and Romeo and Juliet.

In this show, images of floral arrangements and bouquets represent the ways people bring the garden indoors, and several actual vases will be on display, including one Tiffany vase. Works ranging from an eighteenth-century Indian Mughal prayer mat to the twentieth-century folk art of North Carolina's Minnie Evens explore the garden's role as a sacred space for religious traditions.

Showcasing America's creative energies in Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art six important works by four major American artists of the 1950s and 1960s are on display in this show.
