  • Matt Light, Luis Tiant Having Burgers and Steak With Kids in New Bedford  Providence, Rhode Island, United States

Patriot’s player Matt Light and Red Sox great Luis Tiant will be eating burgers while kids eat steak at the 15th annual Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford’s Steak & Burger dinner on Monday, November 23rd at the Century House in Acushnet. Tickets to the event, sponsored by BankFive, are $35 per person. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30p.m.

“The Steak & Burger Dinner is an annual fundraising event that provides the opportunity for Boys & Girls Club children to have dinner with professional sports figures, corporate sponsors and community leaders,” explains Robert Mendes, Boys & Girls Club executive director. At the dinner the Club will also present the Robert Chadwick Community Service Award to Charles Toomey of Paul and Dixon Insurance for his many years of service on the board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club and many other nonprofit organizations. Matt Light will also be presenting the first Dan Pires Memorial Scholarships.

The event is a fundraiser that is designed to honor our young people and to bring supporters of the club in direct contact with the children who benefit from their generosity. That's why adults dine on "finely prepared chopped sirloin" while Club members and all youth are honored with special steak dinners. A raffle will be conducted with great prizes including two tickets to a Patriots home game, a private Narragansett Bay Cruise for up to 10 people, two night stay for two at Bayside Resort in Hyannis and roundtrip tickets from New Bedford to Nantucket on Cape Air, plus many more prizes. There is also a separate raffle for all youth attending the event with many toys and games.

“Thanks to the sponsorship of BankFive, we have a head start on the event as a successful fundraiser but additional sponsors are needed to help ensure that the Club continues to provide a curriculum in career development, academic enrichment, prevention alternatives to drugs, alcohol, violence, and building self esteem through social and recreational programs,” comments Mr. Mendes. For more information about sponsorships or reservations visit www.bgcnewbedford.org or call 508-992-8011 ext. 13 (ask for Wendy). Advance reservations are needed for the dinner.
