11/22 : The Cunninlynguists, Grieves w/ Budo, Looptroop Rockers, Tunji

On Sunday, November 22, U. of O. Campus Radio 88.1 FM KWVA proudly welcomes CunninLynguists' Strange Journey Tour with special guests Grieves with Budo, Looptroop Rockers and Tunji.
CunninLynguists are touring in support of their new album Strange Journey Volume Two, which was released in June. Strange Journey Volume Two features E-40, Evidence (of Dilated Peoples), Sean Price, Geologic (of Blue Scholars), Tonedeff, Grieves, Freddie Gibbs, Poison Pen, Substantial and more! Production is by Kno, J-Zone and Blue Sky Black Death.
Featuring emcees Natti and Deacon The Villain trading verses with Evidence of Dilated Peoples and Bay Area legend E-40 about society's uptick in chaos and violence, CunninLynguists "Running Wild is the official first single from Strange Journey Volume Two, the second installment of this year's double release from the trio.
There has never been an anomaly in hip-hop quite like the southern trio CunninLynguists. Sampling genres from psych-rock to blues, New Romantic to polka, they have been musically compared to UGK and Atmosphere in the same breath. They have toured and shared stages with Kanye West and Aesop Rock to equal success. They have produced for Lil' Scrappy as well as KRS-One. They have crafted songs with international soul superstar Cee-Lo Green and politically charged indie-favorite Immortal Technique...on the same album. CunninLynguists have eschewed categories, boxes and labels for seven years, four albums and two official mixtapes, all while having what XXL Magazine described as the "Most Hated Name In Rap".
Backed with gritty beats, quality rhymes and 808 thump, the 'Lynguists intend on recapturing the soul in southern hip-hop. With what Spin Magazine calls "Outkast's tragicomic poignancy", Deacon The Villain, Kno and Natti follow in the footsteps of artists like Goodie Mob, Ya'll So Stupid, Geto Boys and the aforementioned 'Kast in painting a picture meant to remind the world that politics, death, racism, relationships, religion and struggle are just as relevant to life below the Mason-Dixon as anywhere else.

Since the release of his first full length album, Irreversible, Grieves has been called a breath of fresh air, a breakaway phenomenon, and a lyrical mastermind. Touring constantly, Grieves stunned crowds all over the country with his distinctive voice, lyrical precision, and unparalleled style.
Following Grieves' encouraging reception and a stint on the CMJ Top 20 Hip Hop charts, fans speculated on what would be next for the emergent artist. 88 Keys and Counting is the response. A joint venture with friend and renowned Seattle based producer, Budo, 88 Keys is a matured record with themes that will challenge fans old and new alike. Armed with a distinct and fluid sound that will delight your ears and rouse your cerebrum, Grieves' second effort is not to be overlooked.

After last year's success in Europe with the album Good Things, which was nominated for a Grammy in their native Sweden, Looptroop Rockers are now taking aim at the US. In mid August the album was released across the pond in cooperation with Sidecho Records and with distribution by EMI. The response so far has been nothing but positive and this fall the group will tour the US as one of the few European hip-hop acts to ever tour the country where the genre was born.
With their explosive live show LTR have accumulated a loyal fan base all over the world and have toured Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa on numerous occasions. Now the time has come to add another continent to the list and win over the American crowd once and for all. Together with their buddies in CunninLynguists they will lay siege on up towards 30 cities, starting in Atlanta on November 10th. After that they will slalom across the map with stops everywhere from Steamboat Springs to Los Angeles. It will almost be Christmas before Embee, Supreme and Promoe return home and after a short break they then intend to start recording their next full length.
