Truth be told, Stephen Starr is a restaurant GOD. In his divine knowledge – and with a little borrowed inspiration from our Parisian friends – he’s created a brilliant new scene for fresh-air wining and dining on Rittenhouse Square. Sure to be a year-round hot spot, while it’s [ridiculously] hot out we’re most inclined to lounge al fresco and take in the beautiful surroundings over a few – OK, a few too many – delicious cocktails. Parc. It’s the crème-de-le-creme.

Right on Rittenhouse Square, Rouge turns up the heat on Philly’s fashionable al fresco dining scene. Whether you’re leisurely sipping a cocktail or meeting friends after work for dinner, Rouge is one of the most delicious places to see and be seen downtown. (And, for the record, their burger is one of the tastiest dishes we’ve ever encountered.)

Right on the river, overlooking Boathouse Row, Water Works touts some of the most breathtaking views in all the city. No sooner had we found our seats, than we felt whisked off to some place wonderfully urbane – rather than urban – for a change. After as many cocktails as we could manage without floating away, we decided on the Grilled Octopus. Sounds daunting, yes, but we can happily report it was de-e-licious. If you’re in the mood to splurge, order the Bling water. Sure, it’s $80. But it comes in a bedazzled bottle, and the place is called WATER Works, after all. It’s only fitting.

Raise the roof! (Did we just say that?) In all seriousness, Continental Midtown’s rooftop lounge is the top spot for outdoor drinking and dining in Center City. It’s chic. Scenic. Sophisticated. And the Buzz Aldron – tang, peach vodka and triple sec in an orange tang-rimmed glass – will have you feeling like you’re on top of the world. Or at least three stories up.

When we think Manayunk, we think the Brew Pub. Like peanut butter and jelly, or peas and carrots, it’s just one of those natural associations that makes us smile. And you know what keeps that smile plastered on our face? The Brew Pub’s three outdoor bars and patio overlooking the Schuylkill. With a wide selection of cocktails, and a rotisserie, stone pizza oven, and sushi bar for those of us who don’t go out with the intention of drinking our dinner, the Brew Pub is hands-down the hottest outdoor scene in Manayunk. The crowd is decent-looking, too.

Bigger is not always better. But at Cavanaugh’s, the city’s largest outdoor deck for dining and nightlife, bigger IS decidedly better with six full-service bars and one of the largest party crowds in town. Catch happy hour on the deck every weeknight from 5:00-7:00 p.m, and delicious seafood specialties including Crab-stuffed Avocadoes, Surf and Turf sliders and Stuffed Lobster Tail. Not headed to the Shore for the weekend? Cavanaugh’s dance club will have you rockin’ out Jersey-style.
