This probably goes without saying, but since we get paid to throw words around, we’ll go ahead and affirm that The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest museums in the United States and by far the top museum in Philadelphia. Year after year, it draws visitors from around the globe to explore its renowned collections and acclaimed special exhibitions. Plus Rocky ran up the Art Museum steps, forever immortalizing it in the minds of movie-buffs the world over. So for the sake of culture or pop-culture, the museum’s a must when you’re in Philadelphia.

To this day, we recall fond childhood memories of crawling through The Giant Heart at the Franklin Institute, thinking not so much of the amazing, interactive anatomy lesson literally enveloping us, but rather how freakin’ cool it was to slide down an oversized artery. Be that as it may, then and now the Franklin Institute has always made learning fun! And we say that honestly. So take your kids, go with your friends, drag along your S.O. Everyone and anyone will love the experience.

The Mutter Museum is our favorite way to get our freak on. [OK, second favorite.] Founded to educate future doctors about anatomy and human medical anomalies, today the Mutter Museum is probably the most disturbing museum we’ve ever been to, in the best way possible. Where else can you get up close and personal with the plaster cast of the torso of world-famous Siamese twins Chang & Eng, and their conjoined livers? Or ooh and aah over the preserved body of the "Soap Lady"? Ogle the cancerous growth removed from President Grover Cleveland? Or muse a collection of 2,000 objects extracted from people's throats? You have to see it to believe it. So go see it already!

Call us hands-on, but when you tell us to politely look at really, really cool things and not touch, we get fidgety. So the very concept of the Please Touch Museum makes us happy. And touchy-feely. Designed for families with young children, Please Touch creates interactive learning opportunities through play. Kids (and kids at heart) can act out Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, shop ‘til they drop at the Supermarket, or take the wheel of a real SEPTA bus, among many other fun scenarios.
