Chef Masa Takayama is the master of seemingly simple pieces with outstanding flavor. The decor is stark, but bells and whistles feel pedestrian when you're getting this level of quality. The must have some sort of black market seafood hook-up that brings in fresher ingredients than anyone else's in the country. This place is phenomenal. Take it to the bank.

Neo is a sushi joint that's unafraid to take chances. They mix unexpected flavors and spices with old classics to create very original pieces of sushi. The sashimi is always fresh they generally let the fish do all the work. The ambience is comfortable and the wait-staff is fast and attentive. As is the case with most good sushi in the city, you have to pay a pretty penny to enjoy it. Neo makes it worth your time and money. Open Mon-Thu,Sun 5pm-11:30pm; Sat 5pm-12:30am

Finally, a sushi place you don't have to sell blood to eat at. Very tasty and well-constructed pieces are yours for the taking in a clean, simple and understated atmosphere. There are a handful of these around town and we're glad to have it in our neck of the woods. The Super White Jalepeno roll is a standout. If you're lucky enough to get a seat outside, you'll be loving life. All-in-all a great option for Upper Westsiders.
