After a night carousing around NYC's seedier dive bars it's nice to get a solid dose of wholesomeness. Sarabeth's is your answer. If you can't drive to grandma's cottage in Vermont, a healthy smattering of their delicious jams on a muffin will put you on the path to recovery. Bring a good book on the weekends because you'll be waiting a while. It's not all jams and muffins, you can get eggs and meat. Wash it all down with the all-important mimosa and you'll be back in action.

Sure it's spendy. Sure it's cliche. Sure it full of pomp. But, hey, it's famous for a reason. Everyone should have brunch there at least once in their lives. Walk through the doors and you get the immediate feeling of a special occasion. Beverly Hills has the Polo Club, we have the TOG. The food is classic, expected and always delicious. It's as New York as Old Blue Eyes, so make plans to enjoy a morning there with good friends and family.

A popover is a thing, not something you just, well, do. It's a fluffy muffin topped with strawberry butter. We're pretty sure it's what the Smurfs used to worship. It sets the tone for the entire experience. After taking down a few of those, move on to tremendous scrambles and crazy-good "flopovers," which are thick, baked, crepe creations. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable, just like the food. Bring your appetite and you'll be pleased with the bill. Open Mon-Thu 8am-10pm; Fri 8am-11pm; Sat 9am-11pm; Sun 9am-10pm

If it's a classic breakfast menu you seek, look no further. From the pancakes to the omelets to the waffles, it's all more than just good enough. They also do a damn fine corned beef hash and the bacon is thick and cooked just like you hope it'll be. The picket fence in the middle of Manhattan says it all. It's a little respite for you to slow down and concentrate on huge plates of deliciousness. Many claim to be homemade, this place delivers on the promise. Open Mon-Thu 8am-4pm, 5:30pm-10:30pm; Fri 8am-4pm, 5:30pm-11pm; Sat 9am-4pm, 5:30pm-11pm; Sun 9am-4pm, 5:30pm-10pm

The atmosphere is open and airy with an outdoor seating space right near the Museum of Natural History. Who says whicker can't be fashionable? The bloodies are what the doctor ordered. If a couple of those don't prove to be meal enough, dive right into their savory brunch dishes. We'd recommend the Filet Mignon Benedict or the Chocolate Chip Waffles with caramelized bananas. You can work it all off with a nice jog through Central Park. That's not what we did, but just saying, you could do that.

For the hard-core, rough and tumble bagel set, this is the place to get your rations. They're warm, fresh and available in any variety. In fact, these little doughy lifesavers are so good they've expanded to become a major kingpin supplier of bagels throughout the world. It's about the cheapest breakfast/brunch option you're going to find in this neck of the woods. Please note it's strictly a takeout bagel store, not a place to sit down. But, it is open 24 hours.

Cafe outpost of Thomas Keller's Per Se, also in the Time Warner Center. Terrific sticky buns and many other high quality baked breakfast goods, though maybe not quite as wide of a menu for brunch as some of the other choices on this list, and more casual dining. Open Weekdays 11:30am-9pm; Weekends 10am-9pm
