UWS gets a bad rap for dining, but places like Ouest work to buck the trend. Start out with great line-up of appetizers ranging from light to more savory. The Oyster Chowder with Bacon is great, but let's be honest, what's not great with bacon? The place really shines when it comes to the roasted and braised meats. Chef Valenti is a seasoning vet who knows how to please his clientele with the best upscale comfort food in the UWS and perhaps even the city. The round red booths gives it a great old-school vibe. It all adds up to satisfaction.

The chefs at Telepan take great pride in what their offerings and we take great pride enjoying them. More than most other restaurants in the area, the freshness of ingredients is instantly obvious. Light and simple salads lead you into superb pasta dishes which bring you nicely into entrees that knock your culinary socks off. The crab cakes melt in your mouth and they do nice things with seafood, but the 24-hour Shoulder of Lamb is a dish you'll smile about for a long, long time. Next time we might just have to order a glass of that short-rib sauce.

Chef Brown's beautiful new restaurant, 81, is obviously a labor of love for him and his team of exceptional chefs. He takes simple ingredients and eloquently adds his own spin. What could be a boring or ordinary dish comes alive with great flavors. He's well-known for his prowess with seafood (The Sea Grill), but don't count out his work with chicken and beef. The ambience is just like his food - clean and fresh, never boring and with a lot of comfortable substance.

Indisputably hip, fun, delicious, fresh and, actually, very reasonably priced. There's really not a bad seat in the house whether it be the private alcove booths, a spot at the bar or at the big community table. It's not easy to set yourself apart in the Time Warner Center, but they've done it successfully. Landmarc offers mouth-watering, honest food for three squares a day. It also has an extensive wine list and the people pouring it certainly know their stuff. The service was friendly and attentive. Enjoy the view of Columbus Circle and Central Park. It's a lovely choice all around.
