Since it's a favorite with just about every sushi lover in the city, the restaurant is nearly always packed. If you get there before 8pm on a weekend (Thurs–Sun) you will find it easier to get a table or a seat at the sushi bar. The waiters are very experienced and helpful with pairing your drink choice to your food tastes or vice versa. The combination sushi plates are the real draw, and, from the salmon to the cod, all the fish is extremely fresh and proportional. There are numerous creative rolls to fill up on as well.

Nobu New York, the flagship restaurant of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine since its opening in 1994. Nobu partnered with restauranteur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro to bring his modern Japanese to Tribeca. Nobu draws upon his classical training at sushi bars in Tokyo and his life abroad in Peru, Argentina, and around the world to create a whole new trend in Japanese cuisine. The resulting dishes, including Yellowtail with Jalapeno, Tiradito Nobu style, Lobster with Wasabi Pepper Sauce, and Black Cod with Miso, make Nobu the innovator of new style Japanese food.

It’s hard to remember you’ve come for sushi when every element of Sushi Samba emphasizes the samba. The bright colors and the modernly executed space compel you to party while you eat, if not to completely forego eating and head to the bar. As many claim the food is underrated and you’re paying for the name, stick to the bar that, in the summer, is open aired, packed, and often features a live Latin or jazz band during the day or night. The cocktails are fruity and highlight the Samba with a focus on rum centered drunks.

The Lower East Side waited long enough for a sushi haven, and Cube 63 finally appeared with trumpets blazing and the crowds roaring. BYOB has yet to impede customers from coming, brown bags of sake or beer in tow. Though it may seem like the prices are low for the quality delivered, some critics claim they’re able to pick up on the smaller sized portions. Cube 63, however, garnered such strong acclaim and a devoted following that a second branch in Brooklyn soon followed and was soon packed to the brink. Creative rolls decorate the menu, like the Pink Lady, a California roll joined with spicy tuna and a crunchy top. The restaurant also offers Omakase dinners and at Cube 63, it’s perfectly fine to put your palate in the chef’s hands
