Luckily Joe’s Pizza now has additional branches around Manhattan, but if you want the real experience head for the original on Carmine Street where you’ll find yourself in the line outside—everyone else had the same idea. There is nothing special about the pizza joint’s interior. The chairs are wobbly, the space is cramped, and the floors are usually sticky and covered in sauce, napkins, and straw wrappers. But there’s something about a slice from Joe’s that’ll have your tummy eternally grateful. It’s not old world pizza here, but the infamous New York slice—the one with a slightly doughy crust, a nice layer of melted cheese, and the iconic dripping of the grease onto the paper plate. Talk about a masterpiece!
