Popular at all times of the day, Corner Bistro attracts every type of patron. The simple tavern atmosphere and menu is a crowd pleaser though its best feature is the restaurant’s late hours, serving food until 4 AM. The famous burger brings in the crowds and starting at 6 PM a line outside begins to form. The burger comes plain, with cheese, or with cheese and bacon, but no matter the combination of additions, it’s the beef patty that does the trick. And the grease dripping down your chin is nothing shameful but a mark of success. The burgers taste their greatest during the late hours of Corner Bistro’s operations after an intoxicating night out.

What started as an NYU West Village congregation has bloomed into a neighborhood favorite. Stand, though neighbored by Gotham Bar & Grill and Strip House, isn’t shadowed by their expertise but rather serves as an expert on the burger. 11 different burgers are served—beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, and veggie—with various original toppings like an onion marmalade or a green peppercorn sauce. Though you may be tempted to try the burger soup, don’t inflict that on your body. Shoestring fries are served in abundance, appropriately sized to complement burger’s thick patty. The restaurant has a lovely casual feel and the floor to ceiling windows along the street invite a pleasant breeze in the summer.

Paul’s Place has been characterized as “love at first bite,” for serving the East Village’s best hamburger. Located at 2nd Avenue and St. Marks, Paul’s central location attracts all types—trendy hipsters, uptown families daring to venture downtown, and scowling neighborhood locals—who come together in harmony over their common love for Paul’s burgers. The menu lists almost two dozen different types of burgers—whatever accoutrements you’ve fantasized over are readily available: pickles, mushrooms, relishes, and onion rings, the list goes on and on. Thankfully the place is a bargain and a burger and fries won’t exceed $10.

Madison Square Park is home to this burger stand that has crowds lining up around the block. This kitchen in a box is home to some of the best burgers and hotdogs in town. The French fries were yummy but the special sauce on the burger what right on the money. The pink sauce is reminiscent of the “other” fast food with the golden arches and even tastes better. Make sure you bring a buddy, book or bench as the long line makes this the slowest fast food in the city.

Burgers have been considered by most to be a naughty indulgence that was until Better Burger opened their doors. This fast food chain has found the perfect medicine for curing hangovers and heartbreak. The smashed potatoes are delicious, reduced fat version of the real thing. They have different choices for sides including a side salad and veggies. Protein packed veggie, turkey and beef burgers pair perfectly with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Healthy entrees are also on the menu, with the salmon fillet as a good post workout choice.
