This totally hip salon is located in the East Village. It has a cute red & brick design that is effortlessly chic. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by the friendly, out-going staff that made me feel welcome and comfortable. I was offered a glass of wine and that really made me feel at home and comfortable. I had a consultation with my stylist and she was an awesome listener and was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. While I went to get my hair washed they gave me an aromatherapy mini-scalp massage that was amazing. I have to say I looked fabulous after my cut and my stylist recommended a new color that I am definitely going back for. The prices range from $65 - $90 for women’s cuts and $55 - $70 for men…so it’s affordable. Take my advice and get your hair did here.

Robert G is an upscale hot spot located conveniently in the West Village. Right away I noticed the couches and how it really felt like I was at a friend’s house. As a matter of fact, there were some people there, I think, just to hang out. So it had a fun atmosphere and cool vibe. They offered me complimentary goodies from the Milk & Cookies bakery next door. They also offered me wine to wash it down. Nice. The best part was that they did wonders with my naturally curly hair. If you have curly hair, then you know how hard it is to find a place that specifically knows how to deal with it. While I was there I saw a young woman getting hair extensions. Hmmm…long, long hair is just a few hours. It is very tempting. I went back a week later to get a facial and it was fantastic, too. I have nothing but great things to say about Robert G except maybe I wish I could have stayed longer!

I went to Seagull haircutters last month because I had been to another salon, whose name I won’t mention, and they had totally botched my color. After having a heartfelt consultation, which they assured me that they could fix my horrific dye job, they got to work. It took awhile, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. It turned out amazing! I love it. I would trust these peeps to do anything with my hair. And they do lots of creative things to people’s hair…I noticed while sitting waiting for my color to process. It’s a quaint little shop with a totally relaxed atmosphere. They have mad skills and creativity. The best part is that you don’t have to book that far in advance. By the way, I dig the music they played in the salon. It was better than some DJ’s I have heard.

Ueno is located in the East Village and Nolita. Two very trendy areas in Manhatten. My friend and I was walking past the East Village location and she decided she would love a trim. They took her immediately! Can you believe? An awesome salon that takes walk-ins?!? The place has a completely cozy feel, yet it looks super hip and elegant. Kudos to the designer. While I waited for my friend they offered me a menu with an assortment of hot teas. I read over the prices and it’s so inexpensive next time I need a haircut, I’m going there. My friend said that they had hot towels for after the shampoo and they actually do a hot towels ear massage that she loved. The stylist was attentive and knowledgeable and my friend walked out looking like a million dollars. One great thing that we noticed was that there was no pressure to purchase anything and that in and of itself is reason enough to go to Ueno.

I made an appointment at Laicale a couple of weeks in advance, they made me put down my credit card information just in case I cancelled at the last minute. I don’t really mind, considering it probably happens a lot. The place was open and cool with a funky, eclectic design. The first thing they did was offer me a magazine based on what they believe is suitable to your needs…I guess based on appearances. They got me right so who’s to argue. I brought my girlfriend who knows more about this stuff than me. I had a stylist who gave me a lot of options and suggestions for changing my style and still looking manly. My girlfriend has naturally curly hair and she got a straightener…whatever that is. But she loved it and I have to say she was smokin’ hot with her long, luxurious locks. The main thing about this place was that they took a lot time to talk with you and really made us feel welcome and comfortable.
