For decades now Tootsie’s has served as the unofficial after-party for virtually every performer who has ever graced the stage of the nearby Ryman Auditorium. Legendary country artists like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson were once regulars, but nowadays you’re just as likely to rub elbows with celebrities from Cher to Kid Rock as they pass through town. While the front room has become downright dingy over the years, the combination of sporadic star power and historic cache keeps the music playing. Hours Daily 10am-2am

The biggest of the famous lower Broad honky-tonks, the Stage is both a tourist haven and go-to spot for locals who want to get out on the town. The dance floor is normally packed, the music is mainly country, and the upstairs balcony makes for some of the best people watching in town. The line at the main entrance can intimidate on weekends, but regulars can usually sneak in the back alley entrance in half the time. Hours Mon-Thu 2pm-3am Fri-Sat 11am-3am

Several years back the Tin Roof kicked-off the successful revitalization of a formerly forlorn strip of Demonbreun and quickly made the Musica circle one of the hottest night spots in Nashville. In a city known for its musical muscle, the Tin Roof stands out as one of the most raucous and fun-loving live spots in town. Bands start around 9pm with a minimal weekend cover ($3)after the music starts. Hours Mon-Sat 11am-3am

Country music record covers plaster the walls, but the real attraction is the bar's live music. Some of Nashville's finest contemporary acts make their mark onstage. The expanded drink menu and the cold beer keep regulars coming back. With Legends being catty-corner to the Sommet Center, it's a popular bar to visit before and after events. Hours: Daily 11am-2am

A mixed crowd of songwriters in Wranglers and preppy college students hoist mugs of beer at this no-frills watering hole near Vanderbilt and Music Row. While Golden T and a pool table keep some occupied in the back room, others conversationalists congregate near the pine walls and hardwood floors in the main bar area. On nights when live music isn't offered, the jukebox wails with music from Johnny Cash and George Strait. There's no menu, but barbecue and chips are often available; including pork sandwiches for $6.50, half-rack of ribs for $10 and full rack for $18. In warm weather months, take a seat on the raised patio deck overlooking Division Street. Drink specials, such as $2 domestic bottles, vary by day and are available 11am to 7pm on weekdays and 11am to 8pm on weekends. Hours: Daily 11am-3am

There is never a cover and excellent bands play more than country! The afternoon is non-smoking which means that kids are allowed to come in. At 6pm, though, they kick out the kids and it becomes a smoking bar.
