Best Day Time Leisure Activities in Madison

Map My Location
In the wee hours of Saturday morning farmers, artists and gardeners alike flank the Capitol to sell a smorgasbord of fruits, vegetables, flowers, sweet treats and so much more. It is considered to be one of the largest producer-only and best farmers’ markets in the country.
Seven blocks of one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants, bars, galleries and coffee houses. Beginning at the State Capitol and ending near Memorial Union, State Street is also a bridge between the mature downtown crowd who call Madison home and the vibrant students who say they’re just visiting. There’s too much to do on State Street , and never enough time.

There is no greater symbol of Madison ’s love affair with politics than the Capitol. With its magnificent granite dome, equally striking interior gilded with colorful murals, marble from around the world, and exquisite glass mosaics, it’s definitely a “must see” while you’re in Madison. During the summer months, you can visit the observation deck and absorb a 360 degree view of the isthmus, or take in the museum on the sixth floor. Free tours depart from the lower-level information desk every day at the top of the hour.
