Blind man in Lubbock can't trust Yellow Cab

9/16/2008 Posted by Yellow Cab of Lubbock

Lubbock Yellow Cab has been difficult at best since I moved here just over a month ago. Tonight, for example, I had gone to dinner after a fifteen-hour day. The dispatcher told me they would pick me up at the restaurant in fifteen to twenty minutes. That’s acceptable. Thirty minutes into the wait I called. The dispatcher told me the driver was “right around the corner” and that he would be “there any second”. Twenty minutes later I was still waiting. The driver was unapologetic when he did finally pick me up. I explained my dissatisfaction. The response I got was “it’s the computer in the office”. Upon arrival at my destination, the total was $10.20. I gave the driver a $20 bill and asked for $8 back in change. Guess what? He didn’t have change! I then asked to just give me $10 back. (that of course leaves him no tip) He said we would have to drive to the grocery store down the street to get change. I took the twenty when we got to the store and said I would be right back. I did some shopping and returned with change. He drove me back home and I threw the $10 bill on the front seat and got out. Unfortunately, this is the norm for taxis in small towns. The drivers, dispatchers, owners, and in many cases, customers, are not the brightest most courteous, well mannered, hard working, and most of all, the most honest, members of society. City regulation, a livable wage for drivers and an understanding of how people taking cabs depend on them as their only means of transportation, is the only way that this job/service will ever catch up to the rest of capitalistic demands of a growing small city. As for Yellow Cab of Lubbock, they have their nerve charging anything for their unreliable, dishonest service. Good luck getting around in Lubbock, TX if you don’t drive. Hope you don’t get stranded four miles from home or your hotel.
