The Pantages Theatre was originally a shining light for cinema in Los Angeles. But, as with so many theatres, it fell into a period of disrepair before being brought back to life. For a decade this theatre, situated in the heart of Hollywood, hosted the Academy Awards Presentations. Today, it hosts blockbuster live theatre, including such beloved shows as: Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Rent, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof and Legally Blonde (the musical)! OK, that last one may be just a tad out of place, but you get the point. This is the IT place for IT productions. Box Office Hours: See Web site for information.

It cost $94 million to construct, so you know it's going to be awesome. (Awesome meaning beautifully decorated and with peerless acoustics.) Kodak Theatre is home to today's Academy Awards and, when the red carpet is put away, also serves as a first class live entertainment venue. From the balcony to first row center-stage, the sound is crisp and the views unobstructed. If you don't have time to catch a show or concert, take a guided tour of the 3,400-seat theatre - they are usually available seven days a week. Box Office Hours: Mon-Sat 10am6pm, Sun 10am-2:30pm

Opened in 2007, Nokia Theatre LA Live is a 7,100-seat indoor amphitheatre designed to host concerts and award shows as well as other popular events such as comedy tours and dance acts. While parking is expensive, Nokia Theatre keeps their facility smoke-free, so you won't leave reeking like stale beer and cigarettes (only beer). Concession stands are plenty, as are restrooms. And while Nokia Theatre lacks the charm of LA's older venues, it makes up for it in its embrace of modernity

This is the place where celebrities dip their hands and feet in concrete to recognize outstanding contributions to the arts. This is also the place where every movie premiere longs to take place. A Hollywood and historic cultural landmark, Mann's has been in operation since 1927 – serving as a must see tourist destination for those from out of town and a rite of passage for LA residents. The theatre itself is unparalleled so even if the movie you go to see is a bust, at least you saw it in a theatre that has no equals. Hours: Show times Vary
