A daytime activity equally anticipated by both k9s and their owners, Runyon Canyon is the go-to spot for hiking in the sunshine and enjoying breathtaking views. The canyon expands from just north of Franklin Blvd all the way to Mulholland Dr, with several entrances placed at Fuller St., Vista St. and Mulholland. This public park is open from dusk until dawn every day for residents and visitors to walk the trails or join one of the numerous fitness classes held at the park. First timers may want to bring a veteran, as the entrances can sometimes be a bit hard to find. Parking on a side street near the Fuller entrance is easier than finding a spot on the always-tricky Mulholland, and don’t forget to bring water for you and your dog – there aren’t any fountains once you reach Cloud’s Rest, the peak resting point. Hours: Sunrise to sunset.

Arguably the MOST recognizable street in the world, the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Hollywood Blvd and Vine St. showcases the entertainment industry idols with gold and pink stars permanently iconized in the sidewalk. You can find names such as Audrey Hepburn, Michael Jackson, Burt Reynolds, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and hundreds more, each marking their place in Hollywood history. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce awards stars several times per year with the talent always being present – get a hold of the list of ceremonies on their website and you can watch your favorite celeb being awarded with this timeless honor.

An often-overlooked leisure activity by Angeleno’s, the LA Zoo houses some of the state’s most exotic and entertaining animals. Categorized into the different worldly regions, expect to see lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), elephants, koalas, hippos, wolves, kangaroos, jaguars, meercats and the always hilarious primates including monkeys, chimps, gorillas and lemurs. You can also find reptiles, amphibians and one of the most extensive bird habitats in California. A great activity for kids is the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo in which kids and adults alike enjoy petting, grooming and feeding the goats and sheep. With plenty of free parking and admission costing only $12 (and discounts for those under 12 and over 62), there’s no need to trek all the way to San Diego to visit a great zoo, we’ve got one right here in our own backyard (er…off the I-5 Freeway). Hours: Daily 10am-5pm.
