Once a private Hollywood home, this club’s patio is the place to be in LA. Where else can you walk into an Ultra Lounge and catch a foreign film or fashion show on the overhead projection? It’s not easy to get in, though, so at least make it appear as if you and your crew want bottle service until close. The ratio of guys to girls is quite advantageous, too, if you have a Y chromosome.

Celebrity-watching your thing? If so, you’re at the right hot spot. That is, if you can get in. Since it’s arguably LA’s most-famous club, A-list celebrities frequently pop in for some stiff (albeit expensive) drinks and some inspired table-dancing. Picky bouncers run the door at all times, though, so dress like it's a contest (it kind of is) and be ready to dole out some bucks.

Find the unmarked entrance and you’ll find yourself taking a trip back to the 1920s. From oil paintings to chandeliers, this alternative scene gives off more of an NYC lounge vibe than a typical LA club vibe. Not to worry, though, the DJ still spins and the hip kids still make the ambience LA-tight – whether you’re there to see or be seen. Like there’s any other reason to go clubbing in LA…

Sure it looks a bit like the bridge of the starship enterprise, but you're not likely to see many trekies here. Hang out swilling well-poured cocktails with the famous, the soon to be famous and the no longer famous sets. Owned by Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM, so the music is served fresh daily. The wait tends to be long, but prime time players like you can maneuver around that. Nestle into a VIP booth and keep your tray tables in their upright and locked position. Open Thu-Sat 10pm-2am; Sun 10pm-12am

Another exclusive stop on the celebretainment circuit, Mood is the right name for this spot with the right vibe. Taking its inspiration from the beautifully serene island of Bali, you can't help but feel superb as you soak in the scene. It's wide open and airy, but has plenty of nooks and crannies to huddle down and mingle with your crew. Refocus on the smoking patio, which ventilated to not smoke you out. The music always delivers and the dance floor is our happy place. Open Wed-Sat 10pm-2am; Sun 10pm-12am

The hotel bar to end all hotel bars. Located in the Beverly Hills Hotel, this chic and stylish establishment is choc-full of A-listers or people attempting to act the part. Whoever thought Jell-o shots would be so hip? They're actually called "jelly shots" -- they look like sushi and are a refreshing change of pace (Sorry to drop the international player card here, but Parisians have been doing it for years). Keep the platinum Visa easily accessible and have a blast in the bar lounge or outside terrace. Bring the most recent version of your script too. After a few jelly shots, there's no telling what you can get green lit.
