Image of Book Discussion: Monster Island
Join us as we discuss the zombie novel, Monster Island, at the Rapture lounge in Astoria. The venue is a comfortable spot with couches and nice selection of mixed drinks. The event will also include a card game called Zombie Fluxx. Game Details: http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/1/a/6/600_11321382.jpeg Zombies arrive in the form of a new type of card, called the Creeper, which hangs around in front of you, preventing you from winning. The good news is, the Keepers include a Shotgun and a Chainsaw and various other things you can use as weapons against the Zombies. Plus you've got Sandwiches and Coffee and a couple of Friends to help you win. The bad news is, if your Friends become Zombies, you'll have to destroy them. Book Synopsis: Most of the world has fallen to the undead, with pockets of survivors clinging to a precarious existence. At the behest of the leader of the Free Women's Republic of Somaliland, a shipload of those makes the ludicrous trip from Africa to New York in a desperate quest for medicine. New York is a wasteland, and everything depends on a small, incredibly dedicated band of teenage girls, armed to the teeth, and native guide Dekalb, formerly a UN arms inspector. Also, in NYC there is Gary, a zombie who, completely unexpectedly, retains live human mental faculties. The questers get ringside seats for some of the apocalypse's finest moments, and no matter how prepared they thought they were, something worse awaits in the depths of New York. When zombies have already overrun everything, that's saying something. There are many layers to this zombie apocalypse, and this book just gets things rolling. Stay tuned. Directions: The Rapture Lounge is easily accessible by either the N or W train. If are commuting from Grand Central Station, you would take the 7 train heading to Queens and get off at Queensboro Plaza. From there, the N or W heading to Astoria Blvd. Helpful Links: Amazon.com Rapture Lounge
