Nama is Knoxville’s best spot for sushi – hands down! The original location is located down near the Old City but they opened a second restaurant near Bearden Hills, farther west. The downtown location is quite small (only 5 or 6 tables total) but is a very happening place every night of the week. The Bearden location is located in the old Cha Cha’s building and has lots more space, but is still packed every single night. Be sure to ask for the ‘Secret Menu’ – a small, laminated index card with 20+ sushi rolls that aren’t on the regular menu. The Soy Joy is the best roll out there! Nama serves food until midnight during the week and 2am on the weekends and has Half-Price Wine Tuesdays!

A true diamond in the rough, East is only for the ‘in-the-know’. A sushi hot spot masqueraded by a dull exterior situated in a West Knoxville shopping center, East is easily passable unless you know to look for it. It appears to be any other cheap Japanese restaurant in a strip mall, but it is anything but. The alluring interior design takes you out of East Tennessee and the sushi is remarkable. The private room with on-the-floor seating is always occupied by Japanese business men – a very good sign.

Owned and run by a local Thai family, Lemon Grass has exceptional Thai food as well as sushi. The original location is in Maryville and is still in business, but fortunately for Knoxvillians, Lemon Grass opened a second restaurant off Cedar Bluff. Don’t be fooled by its inconspicuous location in a run-down strip mall, it has wonderfully authentic cuisine – try the Walnut Shrimp for yourself. Make sure to ask about their daily sushi specials, they’re not always advertised and they’re the best! $2 sushi rolls Wednesday from 5-9 and Thursday 5-7.

We heard about this Greek restaurant-turned-sushi through the grapevine, and had to try it out ourselves. Kalamata Café is known to be one of West Knoxville’s best sushi restaurants. We think it has a deserving spot at the bottom of the list, but try it for yourself – a lot of people love it. Be sure to catch Half-off Tuna Mondays and Half-off Salmon Tuesdays.
