There’s no denying that this museum will bring out the inner nerdy science kid in anyone. The Museum of Natural Science not only has many unique exhibits with over one million objects in the permanent exhibit halls, but they also have a Butterfly Center, an IMAX Theater, a Planetarium and a hands-on Discovery Place where you can touch everything in sight. Some advice: Don’t visit just for the dinosaurs, go see the butterfly center and insect zoo, visit in the afternoon to avoid children overload and don’t miss the gems and minerals exhibit because it is absolutely fascinating. The special exhibits are expensive, but if they offer something that sparks an interest it’s probably worth visiting. The Main Exhibit Hall hours: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm, Sun 11am-5pm and Tues 9am-8pm (FREE admission on Tues starting at 2pm)

Describing this museum in one word is easy… INCREDIBLE! If Art and History is your cup of tea, you will not be disappointed. The museum is one of the largest Art Museums in the states with a collection of artworks dating back to ancient times. The Museum of Fine Arts is a gigantic complex consisting of two main museum buildings, an art reference library, a sculpture garden, and two decorative art centers. There is so much to observe that taking a tour is the best option to avoid skipping anything, but if you don’t like tours then explore on your own and prepare to be mesmerized. Admission and parking is inexpensive so definitely plan to make a day out of it and wear your comfy shoes! Hours of Operation: Tuesday- Wednesday 10am-5pm, Thursday 10am-9pm (Free Admission Thursdays) Friday- Saturday 10am-7pm and Sunday 12:15pm-7pm. Closed on Monday.

This enormous steel building with a palm tree growing alongside it is just as visually stimulating on the inside as it is on the outside, you can’t pass it up without wondering what they have to offer. The Contemporary Arts Museum focuses on the individual concept of art and has an appreciation for the process of creating these masterpieces. The art placed here is created for the present moment so it’s always fresh with new material. Don’t feel like you need to be moved by the art just enjoy looking at the art for what it is and not for a clear or strict interpretation. The museum is pleasantly smaller than other museums so you can take your time and really get caught up in the world of Art. They also have a gift shop that is worth visiting and the museum is FREE so walk through if you’re in the Museum District.Open Tue-Wed,Fri-Sat 10am-5pm; Thu 10am-9pm; Sun 12pm-5pm

If you’re in Galveston then you should give this amusement park a visit. Moody Gardens consists of three main pyramids the Discovery pyramid, the Rainforest pyramid, and the Aquarium pyramid. The Discovery pyramid has a temporary Titanic exhibit with authentic artifacts, but gets over looked by the other two pyramids that are worth every penny to experience. Moody Gardens also offers an IMAX theater, 3-D and 4-D shows, a Film Ride and a Colonel Paddlewheel Boat cruise. They also have a beach area and a golf course. Admission is expensive for an all inclusive day pass, but an a la carte option is available so plan ahead so you don’t waste your money on attractions that don’t interest you. If you’re visiting during the holiday season you’re in for a visual treat with their “Festival of Lights.” Moody Gardens is open daily from 10am-8pm (Palm Beach is seasonal)
