Without exageration I can say every national Steakhouse in this country has a location in Houston. Mortons, Flemings, Ruth's Chris, Smith and Wollensky, Capital Grille, The Palm, Strip House, Spencers, Del Friscos, and Omaha Steakhouse all reside here. And even though I love every single one of these places, what would be the point of giving a recommendation that one could find in many other cities. So I bring you Vic and Anthony's, the best melt in your mouth filet in town. Even though the elegant decor and tasty steaks come with some high prices, it's worth every penny other then the valet service, which is miserable. Instead park on the street around the ballpark.

This is the one bar in Houston that seems to be versatile enough to be all things to all people. The neighborhood bar, a sports bar, a place to dance, live music, happy hour, themed parties, it even has an outside patio with acoustic entertainment. The most important aspect however, is it is a great place to drink and meet people any day of the week. The only downfall may be it gets too crowded, but the attentive owners Blini and Mike are always there on the busy nights maintaining the flow of traffic.

Revered as the king of Houston happy hour, Benjy’s is a sure bet for just about any time. Famous martinis, incredible appetizers and one of the best darn brunches in the city makes Benjy’s a favorite for many. And if you’re lucky you may bump in to Benjy himself, who is often seen chumming it up with diners. If you’re there for brunch try the wasabi-spiked bloody mary… hangover paradise!

The super sexy Houston hotspot was long needed. This 7,000 square foot high end cocktail lounge can certainly draw a crowd. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to get in after 10 PM on the weekend if you don’t know someone or have a table. High rollers will definitely want to get bottle service. Your bottle arrives in a container of ice. It’s pricey, but worth it. Dress to impress.

Even though Houston has recently seen an influx of wine bars, Corkscrew’s laid back atmosphere, top of the line wine selection, and great service make this a perfect after-work spot. Check out the wine-inspired quotes painted on the walls and do not miss their Tuesday $12 steak and garlic mashed potato night.

Located in Houston’s woody Museum District, the Menil campus includes not only the museum itself, but also the serene Rothko Chapel, the Byzantine Fresco Chapel museum, the Cy Twombly Gallery and the Richmond Hall. Open to the public in 1987, this nationally acclaimed area is the perfect place to escape, not to mention that it is arguably one of the most impressive museums in the country that offers free admission. Open Wed-Sun 11am-7pm

Notorious for their blue margarita’s, El Patio has two popular locations. The original, with adjoining Club No Minor, has been a Houston favorite for almost 50 years. You can find Oscar the mariachi going back and forth between locations, but make sure to call ahead so see where he’ll be that night – trust us, it’s worth it. Don’t be deterred by his favorite phrase “come on baby take it off”! Oh yeah, and the food is pretty darn great.
