  • Image of “From the Ashes: The Life and Times of Tick Hall” at The ShowRoom
"From The Ashes" is a documentary chronicling the history, loss and rebuilding of a landmark, 125-year-old house known as Tick Hall. In 1997, a huge fire burned Tick Hall to the ground, leaving only the blackened chimney standing. The loss was a blow to the community and Tick Hall's owners - talk-show host Dick Cavett and his wife, actress Carrie Nye - who lived there for 30 years. Because of its historic and artistic importance, the Cavetts embarked upon an ambitious three-year project - rebuilding Tick Hall exactly as it was. Join the director of this moving documentary at The ShowRoom after the film for a discussion and Q & A session. About The ShowRoom Opened in April 2009, The ShowRoom is Asbury Park’s only independent cinema. Located on Cookman Avenue’s Art Bloc, The ShowRoom is renowned for its roster of critically acclaimed, independent, classic, foreign, family and festival-winning film. In addition, The ShowRoom endeavors to provide the community with a versatile space for business meetings, art openings, live performances, book signings and more. Owners Michael Sodano and Nancy Sabino are film-industry veterans with more than 25 years of experience in creative communications for corporate productions. With The ShowRoom, first-rate cinema has returned to Asbury Park’s growing downtown arts community. • Image of The best IT recruiting company that works both in good times and bad times
Recruiting is all about finding the right candidate for the right position at the right time. Right candidates are like a moving target. You wink for a brief moment of time; you have to start your search all over again. Right positions are no different. You can’t tell your client that it is too late in the evening to work on a position. If you can’t get right into action the sooner the position gets open, your competitors get ahead of you. Worse, your own client becomes either direct competition by spreading the word internally or an indirect competition by reaching out to your competitors. A successful recruiting company builds a robust process that produces consistent results irrespective of market conditions. They achieve this by building a highly competitive recruiting team and rewarding them with top-of-the-line incentives. You can’t make a recruiter recruit for you. A recruiter has to have it in her. Top-gun recruiters have the unfathomable passion to fill in any position, the will of a leading sportsman to beat own record and courage to think out of box. In good times, there is so much demand and so little a supply, yet you have to hire the best available in the market and reengineer them if required to suit the positions. Clients ease the restrictions by being flexible to hire less qualified candidates for the project deadlines they have to meet. It is like a rising wave. In good times, everyone sails well and recruiting companies do good by and large. In the bad times like recession where there is little demand and plenty of supply, time is of sole essence. Be ahead of your competition to beat the bust, else you get busted. You can’t plan in the middle of a crisis. Experience counts, so does planning in advance. Bad times are the true testing period for great recruiting companies to stand out among the rest. Vedicsoft is one of the few successful companies that has transformed from being a good recruiting company to great recruiting company over the past decade. This is no simple feat to achieve especially when they have leveraged the cost effective outsourcing model to the fullest. They have weathered the storms of 2001 bust with sheer focus and determination. Staying on course is the primary key to recruiting success. They mastered this simple art to greater results. Vedicsoft has built a word-of-mouth recruiting model that works. The current recession is bigger challenge to even great companies. Vedicsoft seems to have in it what it takes to ride the wave and stay on course. Vedicsoft is not a pure play recruiting company. They specialize in IT solutions. In fact Vedicsoft is well known for providing turn-key business solutions in Business Intelligence and ERP segments. Go to www.vedicsoft.com to learn more about them.

  • The Nose and the Overcoat in Lithographs by Viktor Vilner  Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum
    0:00 AM
Image of The Nose and the Overcoat in Lithographs by Viktor Vilner
In conjunction with the Metropolitan Opera’s production of The Nose, an opera by Dmitry Shostakovich based on a short story by Nikolai Gogol, the Zimmerli Art Museum presents a selection of four prints by St. Petersburg artist Viktor Vilner (born 1925). The exhibition invites the viewer to explore another visual interpretation of Gogol’s immortal work, in comparison to the one offered by William Kentridge’s set designs for the Metropolitan Opera. Vilner’s work offers a unique understanding of Gogol’s characters and brings to life for the viewer the phantasmagorical atmosphere of Gogol’s oeuvre. The artist is inspired by St. Petersburg’s streets, permeated with emanations of fictional lives and fantastic destinies – derived from Gogol, Pushkin and Dostoevsky – that have never existed in reality but have been imprinted on the city’s memory. In this familiar realm of poetic metaphors, Vilner feels free to superimpose allegorical quotations onto this nineteen-century city of overwhelming beauty.

ABOUT BIRNUR I am a professional Belly Dancer originally from Istanbul, Turkey. I am trained in Turkish and Egyptian Belly Dance styles, classic as well as modern, in Istanbul and in New York.. I started my dancing journey as a child, studying classic ballet, Latin dances, and Belly Dance, and have been dedicated to the Sensual Art of Belly Dancing for the past 6 years. Belly Dancing has a natural and graceful beauty that attracts all great lovers of life to its expressiveness. I am currently also teaching at the JCC (Jewish Community Center) of Rockland, and at the Bamboomoves in Englewood. The versatility of my style allows everyone in my class to find her own self-expression. I give each student specialized attention on execution of movements, transitions, aesthetics and musicality. I take my class into a journey of the sacred, the spirituality, the magic, and the joy of empowerment, of this Sensual Art of Belly Dancing. Stay away from the mundane. Three yards of chiffon fabric (any color that makes you happy) will be needed for Veil Dancing, which we are currently working on. I'm so glad you're joining us! Birnur "There is something wonderful that happens when you belly dance. In Japan, they call it "Satori" – that Zen state, that zone, where your body is flowing, but your mind is quit. It's like a flower that opens, like a black-and-white photo that all of a sudden is color." Amy Anthony (Knight Ridder Newspaper by Kate Santich)

A time honored classic is given the trademark "RRFT spin" in this fanciful version of PINOCCHIO by Patricia Goldberg (book) and Kevin Arruda (music & lyrics). Directed by RRFT co-founder Ellen Beattie, this whimsical adaptation is the story of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet who is magically given the gift of animation by a loving Blue Fairy. Geppetto, the puppet maker, sends the puppet out into the world, hoping Pinocchio will learn how to become a real boy. On his fantastic journey, Pinocchio encounters a wiley team of a cat and a fox, is captured by an evil puppeteer who seeks to exploit the puppet's unusual talent and is coaxed into an amazing trip to a candy island and then to the belly of a whale!
