The Big House. Over 100,000 University of Michigan fans pack into each Wolverines football game and get close and comfy in the bleacher style seating. Tailgating takes place throughout the city (and in the homes and dorms of the students), but try and make your way over to the golf course to see where the real action takes place. If you are a fan of college football, you have to experience a game here!

The Red Wings have been the most consistent franchise in Detroit (and all of sports) over the last 20 years. In that time the fans and the team have celebrated 3 Stanley Cups and the playoffs for 18 straight seasons. You're definitely not going to Joe Louis Arena, or "the Joe," for the accommodations. It is nearly 40 years old, cramped and always has lines for the bathrooms. However, when the team is playing well, the place packed, and when that horn sounds after a goal is scored, the place is electric and sends a shiver up you that will long remain after the game!

Comerica Park is the home of the no longer dormant Detroit Tigers. Over 2.5 million fans packed the park last season to see if they could duplicate the success of the 2006 season (went to the World Series after 12 straight losing seasons). This year 95% of the games are already sold out and attendance is expected to be over 3 million. You can't beat the ballpark on a warm, summer night. While some of the things at Comerica Park are corny (like the ferris wheel for kids) it is a great place for a game. From standing room in left field to the terrace in right field, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. The statues of Tigers greats near left center field are especially nice. The ferris wheel for the kids near the front of the park is kind of corny...you are there for a baseball game after all, but for the families attending, it makes the young fans just a little bit happier to be going to the ballpark!

The product, Lions football, definitely does not live up to the stadium, Ford Field (SBXL was held here). Detroiter's can only hope that one day the team will turn it around. However, what does make a Lions game such a great experience now is they are once again in the city, and the tailgating is a huge part of the day. After the tailgate grab a shuttle from Eastern Market, or from any of the area bars, and head to the field. Make sure you grab a few beers when arriving at the field. With how the Lions have played the last 50 years, you're going to need them!

DEEEEEEEEE-TROIT BASKETBALL is what you will hear Mason bellowing throughout the game. The Pistons after some down times have won one championship and have made it to 5 straight eastern concert finals. The Palace, while nearly 20 years old, is a great venue for a game. 21,000 fans pack in there for the high energy games. Flames and explosions shoot out during the introductions setting the tone for another great night of DDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEE-TROIT BASKETBALL.

If you are a true hockey fan, and can't get into the Joe for a Wings game, then go see the Plymouth Whalers at Compuware Arena. These kids are playing their hearts out in hopes of making the NHL one day. Prices are great and the the arena make for a fun time.
