Chef Hartmut Handke has won an astonishing 38 gold medals in culinary competitions, more than any other American chef. In other words, you're going to get an excellent, if not award-winning, meal. The cellar-like feel lends itself well to date night, but Handke's would also score major brownie points with your parents. There isn't a bad dish on the menu, so order with confidence. Just be sure to finish with the creme brulee. Zagat named it the single best dessert in the country, and after you experience its otherworldly, silky texture, you'll be hard pressed to disagree. Unless you have dined at Sneaky's grandmother's house, you have not had Italian food better than what Trattoria Roma offers. The beef brasciole (meat-covered meat!) and osso bucco are to die for. There isn't much to the Roma's decor, but the service is top-notch. After devouring a hearty meal and slugging down a bottle of chianti, you'll want to break into a rousing chorus of "Funiculi, Funicula." We only ask that you save for the city's finest tiramisu. Let us give you the scoop on Greater's ice cream: it's awesome! See? It even inspires us to make bad puns. Started in 1870 in Cincinnati, Greater's has long been an Ohio institution on par with John Glenn, the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, and unemployment. A few year's back, Oprah Winfrey decided that Greater's ice cream was "one of her favorite things," and the rest is history. If you like ice cream (and you're a Commie if you don't!), then get over the sticker shock (we admit it's pricey) and get yourself a scoop or two. Forget all that you learned about ice cream from your local Baskin-Robbins because none of their 31 flavors will be found here. Instead, consider options like Salty Caramel, Thai Chili, Grapefruit and Hibuscus, and Maker's Mark Buttered Pecan. What? Ice cream flavored with bourbon? Sign us up! Yes, Jeni's has chocolate, but it's Belgian Milk Chocolate made with Ashland County honey in small batches. We've put on 3 lbs just thinking about it.
