You are simply not ready for the Thurman Burger. They have a picture of this delicious abomination on their website. I can't tell if that's smart marketing or a deterrent. I guess it depends on whether or not you like your 12 oz. patties topped with ham, mozzarella and american cheeses, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, sauteed onions, pickle, peppers, and mayo. The less intimidating burgers are also good...but still 12 oz. Not in the mood to punish yourself with beef (I think there's a dirty joke in there somewhere)? Abuse yourself with chicken instead, a la the insanely hot 183,000 BTU wings. At Thurman Cafe, you can show up starved and still leave with a half-pound doggie bag. Did we mention you can play Pac-Man or Galaga while you wait for your table at this quaint quasi-bar? Sneaky approves. Mon-Sat 11p-2:30a / Sun 11a-12a

Put up your dukes! You're about to tangle with some of the finest burgers this Cowtown has to offer. The boxing theme at Ringside starts with the art and paraphernalia on the walls and finds its way onto the menu. Burgers are all named after former champs, including Big George Foreman, Jack Dempsey, and Roberto Duran (one bite, and you'll say "no mas"). Ringside puts the "old" in "old school," having served Columbus politicians since 1897. The kitchen is about the size of a closet...ah, but those burgers. Ringside rolls up the sidewalks not long after the workday ends, but official hours are M-F 11-9.

Mr. Turner's bison franchise now extends all the way to Columbus, and his restaurant makes a nice addition to the city's burgeoning Arena District. There aren't too many venues where you can order bison burgers. If you're the type who likes your burger well-done, stick to regular beef, though. The bison meat get can get pretty dry, though the carnivores among us agree that it is a lean and tasty alternative. Mon-Sun 11-10

Sure, it's a big and obnoxious chain, but Max & Erma's started right here in Columbus...and the burgers are still pretty solid. Whether it's a 10 oz. Max patty or a 6 oz. Erma, it tastes pretty good at the core of a garbage burger. Sneaky is not crazy about the new menu, so stick to the basics. You can't swing a dead cat in this town without hitting a Max & Erma's, so they're easy to find.
