Who knew that Cowtown had such succulent barbecue? You'll be hard pressed to find better east of the Mississippi River. Meats are slow-cooked and tender and the side dishes are tremendous. The restaurants aren't much to look at, with their picnic tables and kitsch, but you're gonna want that roll of paper towels when you've got BBQ sauce up to your elbows. Six locations in Columbus and more throughout Ohio. Mon-Sat 10:30-10 / Sun 10:30-9 Open Mon-Sat 11am-9pm; Sun 12pm-8pm

Pig Iron is the ideal stop for a mean pulled pork sandwich and a cold beer. You get to sauce your own meat (just like prom night!) so you know what you're getting. You probably won't adore the service, nor will you be in the mood to complain with such a full belly. Inside and outside seating is nice, too. Mon-Thu, Sun 11-10 / Sat, Sun 11-11

Hoggy's is more of a sit-down barbecue joint-slash-sports bar. Each restaurant has its own theme, but the menus are the same. The barebecue is solid and the sides are better. Sneaky recommends the "three little pigs," one pulled pork, one shredded chicken, and one brisket sandwich. You may as well go all the way and get the mac 'n' cheese on the side, too. Should come with a nap. Six Columbus locations. Mon-Thu 11-10 / Fri, Sat 11-11 / Sun 11-9 Hours: Open Mon-Thu 11am-10pm; Fri-Sat 11am-11pm; Sun 11am-9pm
