Taking a cue from modern retreats in New York City, The Lofts is Columbus' swankiest boutique hotel. Each of the 44 rooms are unique, but all feature enormous windows, lofted ceilings, and comfortable, contemporary furniture. The terrycloth robe is plush and you can leave half of your dop kit at home in favor of the complimentary Aveda bathroom products. Check The Lofts' website before booking a reservation since they always have several packages available. You don't need to be an out-of-towner to enjoy The Lofts; its Big Apple vibe is also ideal for an in-town getaway.

The Blackwell is Ohio State's most upscale hotel, perfect...but usually booked...for football weekends. The beds are comfy and you'll appreciate their evening turndown service after staggering back to your room. If you're going to be on or near campus, The Blackwell is a great play.

The Hampton Inn does not come immediately to mind when you think of upscale hotels, but the Downtown Hampton Inn is well-appointed and in a prime location. At the foot of the Short North and directly across from the North Market, the Hampton provides access to endless amounts of shopping and entertainment. During the week, the Hampton provides convenient access to the Columbus Convention Center and on weekends, you're in the heart of the Park Street / Arena District party scene. When location matters, the Hampton is highly recommended.

This hotel has changed hands several times over the last 10 years, but the latest incarnation is the best. With it's recently renovated lobby, restaurant, and bar, The Columbus Renaissance is striking from the moment you arrive. It is also the home of downtown's only outdoor (rooftop) swimming pool, which is a fantastic bonus for your summer stays. In the winter...not so much. Prime location with convenient access to all downtown amenities.

The Westin Great Southern isn't just a hotel, it's a historic landmark...and for a boutique-style hotel it has a stately, elegant vibe. The Westin's Heavenly Bed is always welcome, but did you know they also have Heavenly Dog Beds available upon request? With its ornate ballrooms, The Great Southern is a popular venue for wedding receptions, but you'll appreciate its not-so-cookie-cutter quality. For the drinkers out there (yeah, you), Thurber's Bar is a great stop for a nightcap. The Great Southern's only drawback is that it is on the wrong (non-Arena District) side of downtown.
