Skully's is one of the most eclectic and fun joints Columbus has to offer. It also suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Depending on the night you go, Skully's is a lounge, a bar, a diner, a live music hall, or a dance club. Thursdays feature "Ladies 80s," the city's best come-as-you-are dance night. Most weekends and some weeknights, Skully's trots out local, regional, and national acts. Recent big names include Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Walkmen, and Too $hort (real playas like Sneaky know that you spell it with the dollar sign!). Don't hit on the scantily clad blonde cougar that prowls the club, though. That's Skully's wife!

The Ravari Room sits north of the OSU campus and shares facilities with Hound Dog Pizza (yes, it's good, and we dare you to order it "howlin' hot"). The Ravari Room is a bar first and foremost, but brings in plenty of national, regional, and local hard rock acts, including The Sword, Witchcraft, and Dwarves. The bar appears a bit gritty with its brick arches and tattooed clientele, but the staff are friendly and professional. $1 domestics until 9PM are always a crowd-pleaser, too.

It is worth noting that The Thirsty Ear is a remarkably clean bar. There ain't too many live music bars where you feel compelled to wipe your feet before entering. Even though cleanliness is next go godliness, drunkenness is right up there, too...and Thirsty Ear won't disappoint in that regard, either. They feature a great beer selection that keeps the locals coming back. The music selection varies, with generous helpings of folk, blues, jazz, and rock.

Park Street Tavern is live music haven in the middle of strip dominated by club deejays dropping that Oonta! Oonta! Oonta! beat. The Park Street Tavern has a pub feel, but with a window-backed stage that has hosted some of the area's top talent. Rock, jazz, blues, and funk are all represented on different nights, so check out their mildly irritating website to see who's playing. The PST has an off-the-beaten path feel despite its location square in the middle of the beaten path. If you like live music in a venue that doesn't make you feel like you need a shower afterwards, look no further.

Park Street Tavern is a live music oasis in a desert strip of clubs with deejays dropping that Oonta! Oonta! Oonta! beat. The PST has a pub feel, but with a window-backed stage that plays host to some of the city's best and most professional bands spanning many genres (rock, jazz, blues, funk, acoustic, etc.). It is surprising how the PST has an off-the-beaten-path feel despite being square in the middle of the beaten path. If you like your live music in intimate venues where you don't feel like you need to shower afterwards, the Park Street Tavern is a great choice.
