One of the most important words in the Japanese vocabulary is “wabi: - an essential element in everything Japanese, whether a scene or a sassy duckbill platypus named Reiki. Basically, the Japanese know instantly if something has the wabi look. Does Sushi Wabi live up to this self-fulfilling prophecy? Hellz yeah! A Sneak Sunday fave roll is the Godzilla, which sounds exactly how it looks! It's a ginormous roll filled with tempura shrimp, orange tobikko, cream cheese, avocado, green onion, chili sauce, and mayo. Reservations are recommended for dinner. Warning: the digs are small and guests basically sit on top of other diners so the risk of getting a contagious rash increases exponentially! Hours of Operation: Mon-Tue 11:30am-2pm, 5pm-11pm, Wed-Fri 11:30am-2pm, 5pm-12am, Sat 5pm-12am, Sun 5pm-11pm

Tsunami is the bee’s knees as far as sushi in the Gold Coast goes. All rolls are also available in brown rice. The upstairs was redesigned as a lounge to accommodate the sushi-loving scenesters. Owner Steven Song often hangs at his brick house on Dearborn Street, smiling and greeting patrons as if it were his own home. Two top menu choices: Oyster Shooters (mirin-soy-sake base; served with masago, quail egg, & a dash of chili sauce) and Sumo Maki (ebi tempura, cream cheese, avocado, red tobiko, spicy mayonnaise & scallions; topped with tempura flakes and decorated with wasabi mayonnaise & unagi sauce). Oh, and the famous Lychee martini may cause blurred vision and a desire to dance on the table…so we recommend two! Hours of Operation: Mon-Thu 5pm-11pm; Sat 12pm-11:30pm; Sun 12pm-10pm

To maximize the experience, Sneaky suggests heading upstairs to the lounge, sitting at the sake bar and knighting the sushi chef with unlimited creative freedom. Sneaky guarantees the chef’s creations will tempt your tastebuds! Wash down the original creations with one of the fruity-tooty martinis from the cocktail menu. In addition to the upstairs area, the Main Dining Room and Garden Room (garden style dining in winter; patio in summer) provide ample sake sipping space. Another plus: Kamehachi stays open late and is walking distance from Second City and Zanies Comedy Club so it’s perfect for a post show bite. Hours of Operation: Mon-Sat 11:30am-2am, Sun 4:30pm-12am

Coast is the most…especially if there is a hot date on the books. The beautifully modern and minimalist décor equipped with ample legroom is super sexy. Not to mention that it’s a BYOB (sans a corkage fee), so splitting a bottle or five is very convenient. One of our favorite “snooshi” (Sneaky sushi) delights is the Sun Rise maki with wasabi-ginger-soy seared tuna, mint leaves and fresh mango. There is another location in South Loop if that’s an easier schlep. Hours of Operation: Mon-Sat 4pm-12am, Sun 4pm-10pm

They don’t take reservations so stop in anytime! The menu features fresh sushi and signature rolls such as the Tootsie Roll (crab and shrimp maki topped with sweet eel sauce and tempura bits) and the Crazy Monkey Roll (smoked salmon, mango, and cream cheese topped with avocado, red tempura bits, cashew nuts and drizzled with a mango sauce). In addition to the delicious bites, there is always good music and great service! They also offer a discounted menu on Sundays. Hours of Operation: Mon-Sat 11am-1am; Sun 11am-12am

This sexy sushi restaurant is located in Park Hyatt Hotel and is adorned with blown-glass Chihuly chandeliers and a to-die-for Water Tower view. Sushi lovers are encouraged to relax in the lounge area by the bar. If you’re lucky enough to grab a table in the lounge or valuable bar real estate, be prepared for the prices. It may be more fiscally responsible to fly to the islands and spear the fish yourself! A basic Tuna Roll will run $22.00 and the Rainbow Roll, a measly $23.00. So if you reside in that 1% tax bracket than NoMI is the perfect dining destination. Just save some cash for the incredible wine menu! Hours of Operation: Mon-Fri 6:30am-10:30am, 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10pm, Sat-Sun 7am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-10pm
