Some say it’s the most romantic restaurant in Chicago. The only thing we’ll promise is that it’s some of the best Chinese around. Located at the Peninsula hotel, Shanghai Terrace is traditional (but by no means ordinary) Chinese with emphasis on Cantonese and Shanghainese specialties. While this exquisite Asian restaurant tastefully mirrors high-class eateries of Hong Kong, Taipei and Shanghai, the Eastern skyline view from the outdoor terrace reminds you where you are… at least until the Dim Sum Sampler and Five Glazed Duck arrives! Hours of Operation: Hours: Mon-Sat 12pm-11pm.

Sushi aficionados flock to Mirai, an avant-garde sushi house, which opened in 2000 and has since served up the freshest and most mouth-watering rolls in Chicago. While there is a dining room area in the lower level of the Japanese eatery, we suggest feasting upstairs where the low-lit atmosphere is more swanky and urban, serving 30 varieties of sake (!!) and a DJ spinning house music on weekends. If sake doesn’t give you a buzz then we highly recommend the esteemed Red One, a tart martini equipped with fresh passion fruit, lime and cranberry juices, plus vodka, made smooth with a rim of powdered sugar. As for the sushi – it’s delivered fresh every day so you can’t go wrong. Hours: Open Sun-Thu 5:30pm-10pm; Fri-Sat 5:30pm-11pm
