Zanies Comedy Night Club has been a staple in Chicago’s nightlife and comedy scene since 1978. Jay Leno, Sinbad, Jerry Seinfeld, Craig Ferguson, Cheslea Handler, and Tim Allen all graced the stages at Zanies regularly before they made it big mainstream comedy. You must be at least 21 to see the shows, which are featured seven nights a week, and there is a two-item minimum purchase requirement, which can be met by any food or beverage combination. On “Good Neighbor Tuesdays,” Zanies offers free admission for residents of zip codes 60610, 60611, and 60614. Also, those employed in any service industry get in for free on Sundays.

If you’ve got the cash, the talented staff is available for custom comedy shows, workshops or corporate buy-outs. If you don’t, just $8 will get you into the show and the best part is: you can bring your own booze so you can decide beforehand how funny things will get onstage…or off. It’s a great night out on the cheap, though you may have to look hard for the theater, as it’s a bit hidden.
