On a chilly Boston day--hey, there are a few of them--nothing’s better than a steaming bowl of pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup stocked with scallions and your choice of meat and served with a side of basil, lime and bean sprouts. And at Pho Pasteur, it’s cheap, healthy, quick and authentic (Duyen Le, the chain’s creator, immigrated to the U.S. in ‘87 refugee). The other Vietnamese and Cambodian dishes are equally good. Open Mon-Wed,Sun 11am-9:30pm; Thu-Sat 11am-10:30pm

Sake it to us—this Japanese mini-palace is the real deal, with sushi and maki choices up the wazoo. They even have a little conveyer belt of sushi boats; just pick which pieces you want and chow down. For fish-phobes, there are oodles of noodles, crispy plates of tempura and a killer fried ice-cream dessert. The kimono-clad waitresses and the general vibe can seem a little kitschy, but hey, you’re in Brookline, not Tokyo. Open Mon 12am-12:30am, 11am-12:30am; Tue-Thu 11am-12:30am; Fri-Sat 11am-1am; Sun 11am-12am

When you’re ready to Thai one on, there’s no sweeter place than the Brown Sugar Cafe, which now has three locations to keep its satay-craving customers satiated. You’ll find brown sugar—there’s a pot on every table—along with perfect country pad Thai, a tasty array of curry dishes and plenty of vegetarian options to balance the seafood and meat. At dinner, try the crispy duck; at lunch, almost everything is under a 10-spot. Open Mon-Thu 11am-10pm; Fri 11am-11pm; Sat 12pm-11pm; Sun 12pm-10pm

It can be tough to trust a place that serves the whole shebang of Asian food. Lo mein, kimchee, sushi and curry? Yikes. But like the parent who doesn’t favor one kid too much, owner Jae Chung does a pretty darn good job, producing fresh fish, addictive pad Thai and some creative twists here and there. The prices are decent, the bartenders are cool and the vibe is almost always lively—you can’t ask for much more. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-4pm, 5pm-10pm; Fri-Sat 11:30am-4pm, 5pm-11pm; Sun 12pm-9:30pm

At Golden Temple, you’ll find comforting classics like General Gau’s chicken, moo shi pork and beef chop suey in a classy setting. For large martinis, sexy lighting and DJ-spun tunes (not that grating music played in some Asian eateries), head to the E Room. For a spin on the traditional fare, go for the chardonnay chicken; the wine in the bottles, meanwhile, is Wine Spectator-approved. Open Mon 12am-2am, 11:30am-1am; Tue-Thu 11:30am-1am; Fri-Sat 11:30am-2am; Sun 11:30am-12am
