The good thing about chain restaurants is they tend to make something pretty good before they serve it everywhere (well, usually). At the Border Café, the margaritas come nine different ways, made with your choice of house, Cuervo, Sauza or Sauza Hornitos tequila. From $5.50 to $7.75, they also allow you to afford another one.

The margs are large and in charge at the Cactus Club, which has won numerous awards for its tequila-based troughs. And unlike some Mexican restaurants that guard their margarita recipes, this places gives them away for drinks such as the Cadillac, the Platinum, the Three G’s. OK, so their sour mix is secret, but it’s a step toward sharing. Open Mon 12am-2am, 4pm-2am; Tue 4pm-2am; Wed-Sat 11:30am-2am; Sun 11:30am-12am

Whether you like your margarita classic (if classic means Sauza Extra Gold, Cointreau and fresh lime juice) or creative—say, a habanero watermelon mixture—Masa makes it right. Frozen or straight up, Cottonwoods’s margaritas do the trick when you’re winding down from work or quenching a monster thirst after chips & salsa. Hello! They also come by the pitcher—go for an icy cold mango concoction or splurge on the Platinum, made with Cointreau and Milagro Anejo, Patron Silver or Tesoro Reposado. Open Mon 12am-12:30am, 11:30am-12am; Tue-Fri 11:30am-12am; Sat 11am-12:30am; Sun 11am-12am

The truth is, this Fenway eatery makes a pretty darn good margarita, with just the right kicks of alcohol, sweetness and tartness. A pitcher well set you back, which isn’t too bad (though you may have to share it). Open Mon 12am-2am, 11:30am-2am; Tue-Sat 11:30am-2am; Sun 11:30am-12am
