Yes, we like the brassy, classy décor at this Newbury Street saloon that’s been around since 1968. But what we really love about Charley’s is that you get a free bloody mary, and a good one at that, with every brunch entrée. You may have to stand in line, but sipping the elixir at an outside table spring through fall is sublime. Open Mon-Thu 11:30am-11pm; Fri 11:30am-12am; Sat 11am-12am; Sun 11am-11pm

Sometimes, it’s about the garnishes, too, and Back Bay’s Ciao Bella says bion giorno with olives alongside lemon, lime and celery in its big bloody mary. It’s the ideal accompaniment for tucking into a portabello mushroom, tomato and asiago cheese frittata, and for people watching along Newbury Street. Open Mon-Wed,Sun 11:30am-11pm; Thu-Sat 11:30am-11:45pm

Sit outside at Stella, whose al fresco dining area is one of the most spacious in the South End. The Italian eatery serves Sunday brunch from 10 am to 3 pm and the Bloody Mary goes perfectly with bruschetta with smoked salmon and egg salad or linguini carbonara with a poached egg on top. If it’s too chilly for the patio, ask for a table in the front room.

Score a patio table, or at least a table near the floor-to-ceiling windows for enjoying a beautifully mixed Bloody Mary—thick and served with a shrimp and olives--at Sunday Brunch. On summer days, the windows open right up and on winter days, you can watch the world go by on Huntington Avenue. Open Mon-Wed 11:30am-10pm; Thu-Fri 11:30am-11pm; Sat 11am-11pm; Sun 11am-4pm

Sunday Brunch at this steakhouse makes even the most horrific of hangovers a bit more bearable. Yes, you have to wait until noon for booze on Sundays here, like the rest of Massachusetts. But the thick, spicy Bloody Sundays are worth the wait (heck, just sleep in). Open Mon-Thu,Sun 11:30am-11pm; Sat 11:30am-12am
