Put on your boots, gas up your truck, and fill up the cooler. The Salt Lick is located about 30 minutes from downtown but well worth the drive. It opened its doors in 1969 and is a world renowned BBQ restaurant. Family style BBQ is served where it should be, on picnic tables. The menu features pork ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, pickles, onions, and bread. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are available, but bring your own alcoholic beverages, because Hays County is dry. Open Mon-Thu 11am-9:30pm; Fri-Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 11am-9pm

Maru may be one of the best kept secrets in Austin and it is slowly getting out. This is not among the opulent restaurants of downtown. It is as unassuming as the location. Maru features a simple menu of some of the best sushi in town. BYOB is available for $5 per person. For those who don't have time to pick drinks, they now offer beer, wine, and sake. Open Mon-Thu 11am-2:30pm, 5pm-9:30pm; Fri-Sat 11am-2:30pm, 5pm-10pm
