From the moment you arrive you will be treated as an honored guest! There’s a large dining area, but if there’s room, sit at the bar so you can observe the expert chefs create your meal! You’ll be immediately greeted with a bowl of miso, aromatic and appetite arousing along with a surprising salad tossed in a scrumptious tangy dressing. Now comes the hard part, deciding between the huge assortment of sushi – maki, nigiri or sashimi. Teppanyaki and the tempura are other choices. Japanese beer and sake are available. The quality of the ingredients is astonishingly fresh, it’s all right there in front of you – and the owner’s pride is too! A dainty bowl of mandarin oranges cleanses the palate, completing the meal. If you love sushi, the name is easy to remember and so is the food! Hours – Lunch, Mon-Sat 11:30-2pm Dinner Mon-Thurs 5-9:15pm, Fri 5-10:15pm, Sat 5pm-9:45pm

Although funky Nob Hill is the Albuquerque location of this top rated Sneaky sushi pick, you’ll feel as though you’ve been transported thousands of miles away to the origins of this food! Ask to be seated at the oval bar with a good view of the action, the chefs at work and the delectable morsels floating by in their boats! All the usual choices are on the menu – from maki to sashimi as well as nigiri and vegetarian rolls. Give the green chile roll a try, a cultural mix of a New Mexican favorite, the roasted and lightly battered green chile incorporated into a traditional Japanese treat. Check the chalkboard for daily specials too! The extremely attentive staff adds to the charm here! Hours – Lunch, Mon-Thurs 11:30-2pm – Dinner, 5-9:30pm Lunch, Fri-Sat 11:30-2pm – Dinner, 5-10:30pm

Another super sushi recommendation, Japanese Kitchen is in Uptown Albuquerque. Their “Robata Bar” which means “by the fire” charcoal grill, is the distinctive feature here! Traditional sushi fare is available although the grilled choices are what you would want to check out, an amazing array of edible art! The husband/wife team who make this establishment sparkle with the joy of well prepared food also offer “Omakase” meaning the chef’s choice, an elaborate several course experience showcasing the best of the season’s ingredients, reservations must be made one day in advance for this treat!
