Set aside some sneaky time for the sensational Sandia Mountains! Take the truly leisurely route and travel the tram to the peak at 10,000 ft. It is the world’s longest aerial tramway, with a super New Mexican restaurant at the base and fine dining once you arrive up top! The panoramic views allow for 11,000 sq. miles of unparalleled New Mexican scenery! Or if you’re into adventurous exercise, ski on over 30 groomed trails, hike forever (Sneaky Sunday recommends the La Luz trail, from base to peak and back down again in approx 9 hrs!) isolated into-the-wild type of camping and crazy cool mtn. biking routes! All the info you’ll need to make a day, a week or a month memorable on this mountain is available on the web.
The premier men’s health magazine rated Albuquerque the number one fittest city in America in ’07! If you’re into outdoor fitness, you’ll want to check out the Bosque Path! Sixteen miles of paved, uninterrupted trails, which hook up in a variety of places to an additional 300 miles of bike paths all within the city limits! Weekends are almost chaotic to negotiate the most popular sections but definitely worth a little extra adrenaline! You’ll be joined by runners, in-line skaters, strollers, cyclists of every type, people on horseback and an occasional surrey, as well as some more unconventional friends – coyotes, roadrunners, snakes, bald eagles, porcupines, migrating waterfowl, hawks and lizards! A sneaky someone we know logged over 10,000 miles in one year cycling through this paradise! A top place to get in some sneaky exercise!
The Biopark venue encompasses the Albuquerque Aquarium, the Rio Grande Botanic Gardens, the Rio Grande Zoo and Tingley Beach. All parks are within walking distance of each other. The Aquarium highlights the Rio Grande River from Albuquerque to its mouth at the Gulf of Mexico, featuring ocean tanks with multiple species of sharks, eels and sea turtles – refreshing to the desert dweller psyche for sure! The Botanic Garden also takes you far from our high desert into a Japanese Garden and a butterfly retreat as well! It is also known as home to the largest Cottonwood Forest! The Zoo covers 64 acres and nurtures over 250 species of both native and exotic animals. Tingley Beach has three lakes for fishing and a lake devoted to model boats. There are concessions and bikes to rent and pedal boats as well. Weekends are normally jammed with Albuquerque locals but weekdays are a sneaky good time here!

If you would like to submerge yourself into the history and culture of the nineteen Indian Pueblos of New Mexico, this is the spot to do it! Detailed information about each Pueblo, including location, etiquette and feast days is at your fingertips here! This center was already impressive before they added another 19,000 square feet! (Aug.08) There are regularly scheduled traditional dances along with events that feature the art of the Pueblos and Native American cultures. The Pueblo Harvest Café is the only restaurant in Albuquerque owned and operated by Native Americans. The menu is decidedly upscale, especially for dinner! Check their website for extensive information.

Sneaky Sunday doesn’t know how to begin to describe this place well enough to do it justice! It’s location along the Rio Grande Bosque is reminiscent of an Old World estate. The owner/vintner, a Rio Grande native, maintains his family residence on the property. The first vines were planted by the family in 1990 with continual upgrades being made to the structures on the premises through 2004. The owner’s commitment to the creation of award winning wines, the architectural beauty of the structures and gardens along with fine musical events combine to make his winery alive with the classiest vibe around! Year round events on their calendar range from receptions and dinners serenaded by top musicians in the classical or jazz fields, to cooking classes hosted by the winery’s chef, to the ever popular wine harvest, volunteers pick all day and are treated to barbeque, after the grape stomping contest, of course!
